Revitalize
For the Future of Cascades Park
The comprehensive Cascades Master Plan details the manner in which the historic assets of Cascades Park can be improved, while creatively incorporating contemporary amenities and adopting long-range maintenance systems. Because it serves as a city-side garden, urban wildlife refuge and recreation center for 350,000 people a year, planning a complete restoration of the Park had to be done carefully and with both public and professional consensus.
All agreed that the Master Plan should not just touch on the cosmetic needs of the Falls, as previous renovations have done; rather, the Plan must retain the unique qualities that make Cascades Park special while capitalizing on these assets to make Jackson a notable visitor destination again. A comprehensive vision for the whole Park is vital to its long-term success.
The Cascades Master Plan designates four areas of focus that encompass its revitalization efforts:
- Natural landscapes, wildlife habitats and nature-based activities
- Entertainment with a historic flair
- Open space, active recreation and visitor amenities
- Infrastructure and public safety improvements.
To raise the money needed to execute the Master Plan, the $30 million capital initiative developed five action words to express how the Plan will restore the historic grandeur of Cascades Park. The acronym, PRIDE, which stands for Protect, Renew, Improve, Develop, Expand, is used to illustrate the revitalization efforts of the Cascades Master Plan.
